How to switch my browser encoding to GB2312?

When you see garbled text (such as ""), you need to switch your browser encoding from UTF-8 to GB2312 so that the web pages will display correctly.

It's easy to change the encoding in old browsers. Nowadays, as UTF-8 has become the universal standard, most modern browsers have removed the option to change the encoding from the menu, making browser extensions necessary for this purpose.

Mozilla Firefox

It's easy to change the encoding in modern Firefox. It doesn't need a browser extention. Firefox version 91 (released on 2021) added a new "Repair Text Encoding" function to replace the former "Text Encoding" menu item. You need to right click an empty area of the Tab bar at the top of the Firefox window and click "Menu Bar" to display the Menu Bar first. (Or you can also press the "Alt" key to show the Menu Bar.) Then click the "View" and select the "Repair Text Encoding" menu item. After that, the text encoding will be automatically switched to the appropriate one.

Chromium / Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge

All you need to do is to install a browser extention named "Charset". For Chrome / Chromium user, you can download it from Chrome Web Store or GitHub. For Edge user, you can download it from here. And you know how to use it.
